Think of it as road sign...it contains nothing but a direction and only
visible since Hide Protected Operating System files was toggled on. If you wish to access(after you install Vista) your 'real' documents you really have two choices. a. ensure Vista is configured to show your user folder on the desktop - rt click on desktop/Personalize/Change Desktop icons - put a check in User Files b. access your 'user files' via Explorer C:\Users\<logon id>\Documents\Links which has shortcuts to Documents, Pictures, Music, Public etc.. -- ...winston ms-mvp windows live mail "Saran" <none@nospam> wrote in message news:Ofcs5UYZIHA.5984@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... davehc wrote: > You have no reason to access it. Then try listing the contents. It isn't a simple alias, it's a system artifact. Stop trying to out-think Vista, it's smarter than you are. -- Chris Game "After all I don't know if I am smart enough to think for myself." -- 'caver1' |

But what is the point of fort-knox-ing what should be a simple alias (junction) ? I mean the whole point ot to provide some backwards compatiblity with the previous paradigm. So why make it so difficult to access? > Stop trying to out-think Vista, it's smarter than you are. Doing things that make no sense does not constitute being smart (or smarter.) |

it's funny that this seems
to have happened to me and a few others around the same time, which makes me think that a windows update changed something? I have always clicked on photos, or music folders from within my documents with never a problem, then all of a sudded they are shortcuts and give me the access denied message as well! If there was an update I'm guessing at around 1st february 2008 this could have either changed our hidden folder settings as we now 'see' the hidden folders. or it actually changed something in our Vista OS at that time, because all of a suuden, many people get the access denied message, very intrigiung.
