ON the Vista computer, i could not find any of the other computers (XP) in
my home [wireless] network. By reading help, it seemed that perhaps the problem was that Network Discovery needed to be turned on in Vista. When i went to do that, i get a warning that for a home network, it is private, and discovery is automatically on, so i don't really need to turn it on. So, i clicked cancel. But, i could not find any other way to see the other computers on my home network, so eventually i turned Network Discovery on, and indeed that solved the problem, and i could see the other computers. Is there some reason NOT to turn Network Discovery on, and if there is, then how do i get Vista to see the other computers in a safe way (as opposed to not see them at all). Thanks, tom |

The wording is strange for you.
In a home Network, you are in a Private Network(which is safe), and have Network Discovery ON. Contrary to what you are thinking, if you are in a Public Network, security is higher, as you are in hotspots such as Airports, coffee shops, etc.; and you don't want anyone to see your computer in the Network.
