How to keep track of configuration

Hi,

I would like to know what is the easist way to keep track of my XPE revision
(or my configuration revision) deployed in the field so that I can determine
what kind of XPE upgrade (I plan to use IDIFF and IDA) is needed. Also this
can help XPE users to report any problems corresponding to the configuration.
I have thought about using my own splash screen with the revision info in
the image but not sure if it is the easist way.
