The saga continues. I have followed the directions to the letter, but when this screen pops up: http://tinyurl.com/2u7hf6 it just times out. I also have downloaded SP1 as a big file separately, but when I invoke it, I get a progress bar halfway across the first install screen and then it times out. All the files I was supposed to install before downloading or running SP1 were successfully installed. Is there any help available for this issue, or am I just S.O.L? Thanks |

Times out? What error message do you get that says the install has "timed out"? As you proly know, it's usually dl's that time out. > > All the files I was supposed to install before downloading or running > SP1 were successfully installed. > > > Is there any help available for this issue, or am I just S.O.L? I presume you've done the usual...i.e., delete all temp files and reboot then go to updates and try again. I've installed two SP1's and they take forever to install (the actually SP1, once you get there). Good luck! Frank |

If it doesn't work, try again with final release.

But the MS knowledge base references to that one are too obscure for me. Be nice if MS offered some real help on these issues, eh? |

I don't have RC1 installed, but based on earlier betas I tried, there is a
Feedback link on the Desktop available for you to offer feedback. -- Andre Blog: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Vista Quickstart Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E8E5CC039D51E3DB!9709.entry "Harry Krause" <harry.krause@gmail.com> wrote in message news:uVdho5TPIHA.5360@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Andre Da Costa[ActiveWin] wrote: >> If it doesn't work, try again with final release. > > > Yeah, thanks. Because the Beta is still in development, documentation is scarce in
in a constant state of change. "Be nice if MS offered some real help on these issues, eh?" Generally not expected on Beta products to those outside of the Technical Beta. that is one reason extreme caution should be used when attempting to install anything Beta. there will be more options probably including support from Microsoft with installation issues on the final release. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar "Harry Krause" <harry.krause@gmail.com> wrote in message news:uVdho5TPIHA.5360@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Yeah, thanks. This is a public newsgroup for Vista SP1 RC.

I had to turn off every real time monitoring program running in the
background to install Vista SP1. I could not install the earlier versions of SP1. Remember, it is a beta and this is just the information and feedback that the developers are looking for. I am fairly certain that they monitor these news groups - even though they do not contribute here. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Harry Krause" <harry.krause@gmail.com> wrote in message news:ekaMFdTPIHA.6060@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > > The saga continues. > > I have followed the directions to the letter, but > when this screen pops up: > > > http://tinyurl.com/2u7hf6 > > > > it just times out. > > I also have downloaded SP1 as a big file separately, but when I invoke it, > I get a progress bar halfway across the first install screen and then it > times out. > > All the files I was supposed to install before downloading or running SP1 > were successfully installed. > > > Is there any help available for this issue, or am I just S.O.L? > > > Thanks |

Disable any software that monitors in "real-time". Like; anti-virus software, anti-spyware and other programs that are running in the background. Messaging programs, etc. Close them all down and keep them from starting at Windows startup. If you have a third party disk defrag that does automatic defrag in the background, stop that, too. Close *everything* that's not absolutely needed. Since you've downloaded the complete setup exe, you could also try installing that from Safe Mode. -Michael |
