External Hardrive

ok i just installed Vista from Windows Xp Professional. I had items on my
external hardrive that wont work in desktop but only works when i actually
open it up. My question is: Do i have to reinstall Those items on the
hardrive to work and also is the hardrive's items upgraded to vista?

I'm sorry but we seem to have a communication difficulty. What "items"
are on the external hard drive and what does "not work in desktop"
actually mean? What does "actually open it up" mean? Remember that we
can't see your computer from here.

An example answer might be:

1. I have files I made in MS Word saved on the external hard drive.
2. Do I need MS Word installed in Vista to open these files? (Yes)

Or perhaps

3. I have picture files (.jpg) I saved on the external hard drive. When
I double-click one, here's what happens: [fill in blank]

And I'm afraid I don't understand your last sentence at all. What do you
mean by "s the hardrive's items upgraded to vista"?
