Default Why won't VueScan 8.4.48 keep my registration info?

I have to keep entering my VueScan 8.4.48 registration info. I enter
it once, it says I'm fine and that I've registered it in Pro mode, I
pull down "About" and all is perfect.

Then, part way though, it claims VueScan isn't registered at all! I
pull down "About", and sure enough, it says it's not registered! I
re-enter the reg info again, it says ok again, "About" shows
everything's fine, then part way through, it says it's not registered
again!

I go into the registry and hand-force the values, everything's fine.
I run VueScan, and it says it's not registered again!

What's going on and how do I fix it?

Send a message to the author Ed and see what he has to say - surely
there is some backup.

This is happening to me too. Every third scan has dollar signs on it
and asks for the numbers all over again. Vuescan's registration system
also sets off comodo firewall as a "possible trojan" and requests
"illegal window operations" in Firefox. Amateur copy protection,
poorly implemented. I paid for this, but I am thinking of looking for
a copy of it "elsewhere" at this point so I can keep working.. Serious
potential for a downhill slide starting with v.8.4.
