This is so weird. I have read some of the other posts, and tried the fix
which was shown, but to no avail (Microsoft says that fix doesn't apply to my system). I can't delete out messages, or send messages, or download messages. When I try to download I get error 0x80004005. I've tried doing a system restore, scanning for viruses and spyware, getting Windows Defender to check for problems. I do have Vista. It seemed to straighten itself out this morning, but now it's doing the same thing again. Any ideas? |

Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

Gary, this is what I get when I try to download email. When I try to delete
or send, it just says an Unknown Error has Occurred. I left my account name off for security reasons. An unknown error has occurred. Account: '', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005 "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: > Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. > > -- > Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] > > > "kssams" <kssams@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7B14D0F0-0616-4917-90FE-19918849A373@microsoft.com... > > This is so weird. One possibility is that this problem is caused by an incompatible
antivirus. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, not just disabled. After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "kssams" <kssams@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E57A114C-EF16-46D2-A100-4DD42E9EBEC6@microsoft.com... > Gary, this is what I get when I try to download email. We have TrendMicro PC-Cillin and have never had this problem previously,
unless a new update has caused the problem. I will try this suggestion and let you know if this worked. Yes, let us know. We've seen other reports saying a recent update
to Trend Micro AV caused this incompatibility. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "kssams" <kssams@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news E2357C7-78F8-4729-9D7A-180D1FAD4F4F@microsoft.com...> We have TrendMicro PC-Cillin and have never had this problem previously, > unless a new update has caused the problem. For the fix, I assume you tried both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version? Whichever was the wrong one for your system would probably say that. Who is your email provider (probably also your internet provider)? |

Here is the full error message:
An unknown error has occurred. Account: '', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005. I also get the unknown error message when trying to delete messages and send messages. I left out the account name for security reasons. I did try both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Neither were deemed appropriate! Email is Comcast, and IE for the browser, though the internet service is Comcast. I have sent an email to TrendMicro to see if that is the problem. If I exit out of TrendMicro all together, so that it's not running (but still installed), it doesn't help. ARRGH! Have you checked the button for My server requires authentication
and tried changing the outgoing port to 587? http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/ind...q=Emailtop17686 -- http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview "kssams" <kssams@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:EDCE4900-B0DD-4D7C-8C98-1F585DFB0250@microsoft.com... > Here is the full error message: > > An unknown error has occurred.
