Hi all,
In all Vista applications, how do I stop the screen automatically scrolling towards the mouse pointer. This is really annoying, especially in Word 2007 when I'm typing and the screen jumps back (with the cursor) to where the mouse pointer is hovering. It also hapens in IE7, it's like I'm constantly fighting with the screen to keep it where it is when I'm reading a website! I can't see anything in Mouse Options in the Control Panel to stop this. Help!!! |

Normally, the mouse auto scroll is activated with the middle button.
if it is active all the time, then it is probably the driver. If you have a joystick type mouse, then there may be a settings box that will allow you to calibrate it for X,Y, and it will find center on it's own. If you are using a laptop, you may want to contact your manufacturer about the issue. -- Curt "Priscilla" <Priscilla@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0B1B0456-0A4C-4042-A914-43957DCDD423@microsoft.com... > Yes, Aser. I am using a laptop, but we have the same problem on every type of laptop we
use (currently Fujitsu, Toshiba and Dell). The problem occurs whether the touch pad on laptop is active or not. All the external mice we use are Microsoft mice so drivers are current and Vista compatible. I have turned off every possible attribute in software but to no avail. Even in Word, when the cursor is not visible because you are typing, if you pause in typing the page will jump to the cursor position. It is beginning to make some of these applications (especially Explorer) virtually untenable! Just a shot in the dark but when I press my mouse wheel, an up/down
arrow appears and the screen will scroll when the mouse is moved. I wondered if, when an external mouse was used on the laptop, whether the scroll wheel had been pressed too hard and activating the touchpad did not cancel this setting? No sorry. I get the scroll arrow as well when I press the wheel down too,
that is fine. The problem is just scrolling using the wheel or the scroll bars. For example now, if I use the wheel to scroll down, when I stop scrolling the screen bounces back - as if it is trying to go back to the cursor point on the screen. Very annoying and extremely frustrating! One last guess - have you tried toggling the scroll lock key?
I know it is supposed to be for direction arrows - but you never know. It's a setting in the mouse button configuration. Normally
on a standard mouse it is the middle button that does that. You either need a driver for it, or you need to reconfigure your touch pad. It might not be letting go of settings from mouse to touchpad, or visa versa. Try resetting defaults and see if that helps. -- Curt "Smirnoff" <someone@nospam.invalid> wrote in message news:BCD425B3-0C9B-430B-9B23-5EAE8C3A823B@microsoft.com... > Just a shot in the dark but when I press my mouse wheel, an up/down arrow > appears and the screen will scroll when the mouse is moved. > > I wondered if, when an external mouse was used on the laptop, whether the > scroll wheel had been pressed too hard and activating the touchpad did not > cancel this setting? > > > "Severan" <Severan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:94EFC9FC-3A87-48FF-B84A-14EA8BD1125C@microsoft.com... >> I am using a laptop, but we have the same problem on every type of laptop >> we >> use (currently Fujitsu, Toshiba and Dell).
