Default Vista crashes on Sunday

I get BSOD several times with automatic reboots on Sunday and it sometimes drags into Mondays. The rest of the week, it seems ok, though BSOD picks up on Friday and Saturday. The worse day is Sunday. Is this divine retribution?

I updated all drivers, unloaded all unessential software. I got rid of WLOC 2.0 beta. I made sure that nothing was being run automatically, defrag, virus scan, etc. It makes no difference what I do.

What happens on weekends? The computer is always on; all week long. I checked the harddisk, the memory. It does not seem to be a hardware problem. I have had Vista32 on here since it came out. Problems started in mid August.

Any ideas?

You may have a defective power supply unit that exhibits intermit
voltage fluctuation behavior.

Maybe you should check your "scheduled tasks" and make sure there's no
"collision". Also, turn it off at night ... do you leave your TV on all
the time 24/7

You have a very fundamentalist version of Vista, which believes it should
not work on the Sabbath.

Is this the day that your mom does all the clothes washing? Maybe you need
a UPS. (not the guy driving the brown truck)

Do all your buddies come over to watch the game, running all the TVs in the
house and raising the need for the air conditioner. Again, UPS.

It goes on standby usually at night. I see no reason to turn it off. Lately it gets rebooted plenty. As far as I know there are no scheduled tasks. Is there someplace I should check?

I finally downloaded version 6.0 of Registry First Aid and deleted everything it flagged. Then I ran it again. Then I downloaded RegCure and did the same thing twice. Then I rebooted into safe mode and did it again. That was on Friday and it seems to have fixed it. I am still holding my breath. I had already updated all the drivers. I downloaded a program from CNET called versiontracker and updated all the drivers again (some of the ones it suggested were older than the ones I had but I installed them anyhow). Who knows exactly what fixed what.

Crashes were starting to be 2-3 a day.

Hi Steve,

Honestly, I wouldn't trust the registry cleaners out there as they might be
able to delete legit entries.

May I know when did all the crashing start? Also is there a dump file?

May be Vista is trying to download and install something on Sunday and it
fails, so it reboots. Try the disabling automatic updates service. My XP
used to drive me crazy by being not responsive at certain times. I realized
that it was silently installing a windows update without even telling me.
Once i disabled the Automatic Updates and BITS, everything went back to
normal. I did that from services.msc
