Default Vista SP1 "tries to hide the Ultimate Extras shame"

I have included the text but the article on the page has images also so it
would be better to view it there:

http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=806

While many are waiting on Windows Vista SP1 to come along to knock off some
of Vista's rough corners, it seems that some at Microsoft will welcome the
release too - specifically Microsoft's Windows Ultimate group.
Long Zheng explains why:
On a related note, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 even tries to hide the
Ultimate Extras shame by removing much of the information in the Control
Panel applet. This is what you see in the current RTM version about Ultimate
Extras.

This dramatic change to the wording is basically Microsoft's way of trying
to pull the curtain on the cornucopia of Windows Ultimate Extras that were
initially promised to customers. Forget the "cutting-edge programs," the
"innovative services" and "unique publications" because there aren't any.
If you're still holding out hope for any exciting Extras, you might as well
give up now because it doesn't look like we'll be seeing any. Face up to
it, if you bought Windows Vista Ultimate because you hoped to get your hands
on cool Extras, you were conned, and being conned sucks.
So far the Extras that we have seen have been dismal and the ones that are
allegedly still in the pipeline (a final release of DreamScenes and a
handful of language packs) are even more dreary and uninspiring, and that's
if we ever see them (actually, not seeing them might be better). The
unofficial Powertoys that Microsoft made available for previous versions of
Windows were a lot more exciting (and useful).
Anyone else feel conned?

I bought Ultimate, but I never expected anything much out of the Ultimate
Extras, and I think that anybody that did, is gullible. If any of these
extras had any real worth, they would be made available to all versions, to
make Vista more appealing in general.

And the fact that these Ultimate Extras are a replacement for the Plus!
packs is confusing, as power-users were never interested in the rubbish that
was included in them.

I've been using NT since Win2000 first came out, and use XP Pro, so I didn't
even think about getting a version with crippled networking. I use user
groups on my LAN, as well as Remote Desktop when away, and at home.

I only use IIS on my Windows 2003 Server, which I am in not in any hurry at
all to upgrade to 2008.

This old ThinkPad X31 is due for a replacement, and I am thinking about
getting an X61 with XP Pro, as Bitlocker is the only compelling reason to
get Vista instead. My apps just run better with XP, even though I am happy
enough using Vista on my main desktop computer, which is very powerful.

Isn't IIS included in Home Premium? In my Vista Home Premium it is listed in
the Turn Windows features on or off section.

I stand corrected! You learn something new every day..
but if you really dig in deep you see that not all IIS setups are equal in
the end

see this page that has lots of info about this

They should come up with Extras. Another thing that could be arrange through
the Extras is a defragger with visual feedback. I already suggested a number
of things to them. I hope they keep their side of the deal ..

If it had visual feedback you would be able to see what it is(n't) doing
for you...

That's a little strong. I've been using computers for quite a while, and I
did trust Microsoft to keep its word regarding Ultimate Extras. It was, among
many of the other items, one of the reasons I bought Vista Ultimate. For you
to blame the user for Microsoft's inability to keep its word is silly.
