Default IP4500 vs IP4300

I read the specs and so far do not see any difference as far as
features. Maybe there are some internal differences that warrant a
different model number.

some differences I've found between the iP4500 and the iP4300:
- iP4500 has CD/DVD printing disabled in N. America, whereas all
iP4300's can print on CD/DVDs
- higher number of nozzles, 4608 vs. 3584 nozzles on the iP4300
- faster borderless 4x6 print speed, 21 secs. vs. 36 secs on the
iP4300

Anyone know why Canon has apparently disabled CD/DVD printing once
more?

The ip4300 will not natively print cd's in NM. At least not in America.
They don't come with the cd tray nor the software.
I know, I've got an ip4300.
I've also got an Epson 1400 that does print on cd's.
Nice printer.

The 4500 has three different nozzle drop sizes.
1,2 and 5.
It is basically the MP810 print engine.

Canon has never sold a printer in the USA with disc printing enabled.

legal matters - I guess it's one of those absurd legal matters (patent?)
and licensing which do protect - and throw back - more and more,
compared to other countries.

Here in Europe we got CD printing (although I never used it). Here we
have to pay extra fees e.g. for printing itself, for tuners within
mobile phones or mp3 players, for scanners, cd/dvd burners etc.
