Sounds like you may have the host server name wrong. Please post the entire
error message so we can tell for sure.

Hal already answered that question, but you should know that
your PC's time zone is off by an hour, probably because you
don't have daylight saving time enabled.

Disable Trend Micro's email scanning features and try again...

I've been having similar problems since last Friday. Each time I get into
Windows Mail, I get the following error message. I have not been able to
send or receive any e-mails and when I click on "inbox" (or any other folder)
nothing shows up. The number next to "inbox" will periodically change so I
know some of the e-mails are coming through but I can't seem to get to them.

This is my error message:
Some errors occured while processing the requested tasks. Please review the
list of errors below for more details.
An unknown error has occured. Protocol: SMTP, Port:0, Secure (SSL): NO,
Error Number: 0x800C0148.
An unknown error has occured. Account 'mail.bellsouth.net', server:
'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: Pop 3, Port 110, Secure (SSL): No, Error
Number:0x800C0148.

Any help resolving my problem is greatly appreciated :-)

The "Port:0" part of your error message almost always means interference
from a third party security program.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, test
your email sending. If it still does not work, the account
has been corrupted by Norton. Delete the account, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

At your convenience, download and install a more compatible
antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Thanks for your response - I had heard that may be an issue. But now I am
confused. My husband has a separate email account on the same laptop but he
is not having the problems that I am having. He has full functionality -
sending, receiving, viewing, etc. I have my folders (inbox, deleted, sent,
etc.) but there are no emails appearing in them. However, when I right click
and select properties, it tells me how many messages are in the particular
folder that I selected. Why would the antivirus just pick on my account?
Might there be something wrong with my setup? My email did work until just a
week or so ago. Thanks.
