Hi all
I'm trying to do a complete backup through visa onto an external hard drive. I've been using the back up wizard but about a third of the way into creating the shadow copy i receive an error saying that the shadow copy has timed out any help would be really appreicated -- ryanom |

Do you have the external drive formatted as NTFS? If you don't, you will not
likely get a full system backup - as fat32 will limit you to a 4 gig file size. Vista backups are usually larger than 4 gig. Do you have sufficient free space on the external hard drive? If the drive is a USB drive, do you have the drive properties set for "optimize for speed"? Have you run chkdsk on the external drive to test its competency? -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) "ryanom" <ryanom@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2E6FF521-E273-4BB0-A14E-AD9E605CF7CE@microsoft.com... > Hi all > I'm trying to do a complete backup through visa onto an external hard > drive. > I've been using the back up wizard but about a third of the way into > creating > the shadow copy i receive an error saying that the shadow copy has timed > out > any help would be really appreicated > -- > ryanom |
