The snipping tool is included with Vista Home Premium and above. If you have
Vista Home Basic it is not included.

The snipping tool is part of the Tablet PC components in Vista.

Here is a link to a shareware program that will do exact same thing.

Hi,

I have have tried snagit before and it does capture text, video, and
image, however, no options for all those things at the sametime also
and was trying to find a better software? The capture web does not
work very well either.

Manquala

You can accomplish the same thing using the built-in tools in Windows.

If you want to capture the screen, press the Print Screen key on the
keyboard. Open Windows Paint and select Edit / Paste. This will paste an
image of the entire screen you captured.

You can then select the Free Form or Select tool to select whatever part of
that screen capture you wish. Once your selection is made, click Image /
Crop from the menu. Saved the cropped image.

that print screen is ok for pictures, however, not very good for
captureing text.

PrtScrn captures a graphic image of what's on the screen. If it's
text, it's a *picture* of that text, not the text itself. So you can't
directly edit any text it captures.

Manquala

Print Screen captures text the same way that the Snipping Tool does? You can
capture anything on the screen and then save it as an image file. Both work
the same way.

If you want to select and copy text, you need to use the clipboard. Select
the text, right click the selected text and choose Copy. Paste the copied
text into a document.
