Default Saving to my computer hangs

Moviemaker v2.1 works fine with my old mpegs

But I have a new Sony Handycam SR32E

I transfer the MPGs from the cam to my pc and import them into Moviemaker -
all is fine I can play them and everything

However when i got to save the movie to my PC - it hangs on 'estimating
time remaining' forever!

Any ideas anyone ?!

before importing into Movie Maker.
