Other than the price I don't see any difference. Even the descriptions are
similiar.

This seems silly, but look closely at the pictures. The "X" version has
a window in it so you can see part of the top platter and head. Why
anyone would want to do that I have no idea. Ditto for what sort of
computer case would allow you to actually see the top of the drive.

Performance-wise, there is no difference. And the Raptor-X has the
window for the curious to see how a hard drive works. And the only
other difference is OEM vs. retail, and their implications.

Why are there side panels for system cases with clear or colored plastic
panes so you can look inside? Oooh, a spinning fan. Must be the moms
of those folks kept their children occupied by placing a table fan in
the room so the kids got mesmerized starting at the blur of its spinning
blades. Just look at all the idiots using USB thumb drives for file
storage and think that's a safe place for storage. Or when pagers came
out and it was the fad to have one (which only announced that you were
someone else's peon). Or the explosion of cellphones so now we're
inundated with prattle monkeys everywhere. These are the same folks
that fought for cabbage patch dolls. Amazing the crap that marketeers
can foist on the easy swayed.

Must've been one of those brain fart days, huh?

First drive: yeah it's a drive, spins faster (and noisier)
Second drive: Oooh, a pretty see-through window that gets obstructed
once you actually install the drive.

First 2 drives: OEM w/rebates
Second 2 drive: retail w/o rebates
Don't know what OEM means?

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer - marketted for companies to install
in PCs. Don't usually get pretty packaging, drivers etc.

Retail = Retail - meant to go in shops for ordinary people to buy. Comes in
a shiny box, with manuals and drivers.

Additionally, with regard to HDDs:

OEM, usually come with 1 year warranty

Retail, comes with up to 5 years warranty.
