Default SATA faster than PATA?

Are SATA drives faster than PATA drives? If so, why?

Thanks

PATA 66/100/133MBs

SATA 150/300MBs

Thanks for response and for tolerating my laziness. I probably should
have googled the subject. You saved me time.

No, not when the same drive is available in those two formats.

The speed of the drive is determined by the physical characteristics, the
rotation rate, sectors per track and seek times, not the interface speed.

SATA drives are faster by a little bit, because they are newer technology
and were designed that way.

You'd have to consider two specific drives, sometimes PATA
drives are faster than SATA, though usually SATA's
marginally faster bus makes for a slight increase, and NCQ
can too in some multi-access request scenarios.

The specific drive used is far more important and some only
come in SATA, like WD Raptors.

Marginally perhaps.. Yes SATA is a much faster bus, but if the drive can't
supply data faster than 133MB/s anyway then it doesn't make much
difference..
