Any thoughts?..... I have Norton now and find it very easy to use and of
course, it is anything but free. However, I have read so much about Free AVG, I wonder if I am just wasting money by renewing Norton when it expires?..... I know a lot of people hate Norton and McAfee (I happen to hate McAfee) but Norton has been good (so far)... ...... Vi |

I've seen it installed, fully updated, updating daily, and people are still compromised by new viruses that are only days old. The people using Norton or Symantec didn't experience any of those issues during the same three year period. -- Leythos spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address) |

I appreciate your reply. Norton *has been good to me... . but it is amazing how many people in the Windows XP newsgroup seem to be really sold on AVG..(not all, but a lot) ...... Vi. |

It's free, probably isn't the very best but I like it and wouldn't expect any product to unconditionally protect if the user fails to observe reasonable caution. Norton came pre-installed and I renewed for one year. I've no reason to question it's ability to protect, but it's bloated and I suspect is more oriented to corporate users, who seem to be more vulnerable to attack anyway due to their large base of don't much care about such things users. Antivir is very good, but due to a little hickup when used with Zone Alarm I opt for Avast. Dave Cohen |

I should have scanned the subjects more carefully. I'm sure I can learn a lot from the group..... Having a computer is an ongoing learning experience (for me at least) .... There is always something I manage to get into because of my curiosity and sometimes it works out OK and sometimes I wind up having to reformat which is not a joy to anyone I am sure of that. |

Welcome to a.c.a., and by the looks of your email addy we have something in common besides computers. btw, I've used AVG free for years with nary a problem, but I am *very* careful about surfing habits and no one else uses my computer. |

I like it because it may not stop everything but it DOES detect everything; And its NOT going to take up half your resources like Norton or McAfee etc. Plus, when you don't want it anymore, its a simple uninstall and its gone. And yes, I'm careful, and don't use the email scanner because my email client is Notes, so I don't need it. |
