Hello,
Anyone have any info on this file? DPWV.exe? Here is the situation; I had a customer email me an simple mailing list as a text file. Which I can open with Notepad or excel or whatever it's a simple text file. Well in the same email was a file attatched DPWV.exe. Which I immediately deleted and contacted my customer as whether she sent it and if she knew what it was. And if she didn't send it to do spyware/malware scan on her pc and clean it up. Her response was, it isn't malware I think it is to help you open the txt file. (she is insisting it isn't malware) Why would I need an exe file to open a text file? I am having some upset with this customer on an earlier mess up involving a corrupt mailing list which is being blamed on me, but now I am wondering what the ..... So any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Smiles, Annette |

For what it's worth, which is not much since file names mean little: http://fileinfo.prevx.com/filesearc...search=dpwv.exe Prevx classifies all three as "unknown" meaning I guess that whether or not they contain malware is unknown. Upload the file for scanning by Virus Total: http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html Art |

Instead of deleting it next time (you can have the customer send the E-mail again) Download and install virtual machine from Microsoft, put the file on the drive then run the EXE in Virtual to see what happens with no fear of infecting your machine. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pr...pc/default.mspx You will need to put the suspect file on a CD or floppy or USB thumb drive before you boot the Virtual PC, Then test away !!!!! Cyberhawk will try to determine if the EXE is a malware and the effects should you let the it execute. |
