I have Windows Vista, all the latest updates. Running Windows Movie
Maker. When I put a transition in between two videos, the transition is ALWAYS jerkey. It does this on every transition I try. For example, if I use a fade where it's supposed to fade from one scene to another, it somewhat works, but several times during the transition it jumps back to the original unfaded screen. Jittery, jerky, whatever the term is. OK, I read that Vista uses the graphics card hardware to make these transitions so I tried several different driver revisions on my nVidia 7900. No luck so I removed the nVidia 7900 and put in an nVidia 6800. No change, exact same result. I then go into Movie Maker Tools->Options and make sure there are NO filter drivers present except for quartz.dll. So far so good. So here I am at a loss and I do not know what to try. Any ideas are appreciated. Thank you. |

Have you tried reducing your Graphics Hardware Acceleration? (272193) PI: How to Troubleshoot Graphics Issues http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272193 (scroll down to: Windows Vista) If it improves the issue, you still have a problem with your video driver. -- John Inzer MS Picture It! - Digital Image MVP Digital Image Highlights and FAQs http://tinyurl.com/aczzp Notice This is not tech support I am a volunteer Solutions that work for me may not work for you Proceed at your own risk |

This is a high end Dell XPS410 (dual core, not sure of the speed right now). Made for Vista PC (not upgraded from XP). Video card has 256MB of RAM. All high end stuff. Very strange. I am wondering if nVidia has a driver issue. I have the option to try Adobe Premiere Elements so I might give that a shot. |

However, my nearly identical Dell XPS 410 here at work doesn't allow me to adjust any graphics acceleration options. It states that "Your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings." I am pretty certain I will get the same message at home. There are some settings in the Nvidia Control Panel that I might try tweeking. Thanks again. |

Well I'm about to give up on Movie Maker. Hours wasted is getting to
be too much. As you might recall, I had massive flickering during scene transitions with Movie Maker under Vista. Everything else was fine. Nothing I tried, from changing video cards, video drivers, settings, etc., would resolve it. So, I tried a different solution. I downloaded Movie Maker 2.6 for Vista. This is the older XP Movie Maker that I have used before with great success. I tested the transitions and it worked SMOOTHLY. All was looking great. I then spent an hour creating a new set of movies and burning to DVD. All was happy. Not so fast. Now another very strange issue. Each video clip I created has a sound problem. Here is the problem. Take 10 video clips and put them into the timeline with transitions between each clip (some titles too). Start to play the video. This isn't burned to DVD or anything. This is a straight DV-AVI generated directly from Movie Maker. It starts out just fine but on the second scene or third, the sound just drops out completely and it never comes back. Scroll back to the start of the video and you have sound again. There is something on my system with Movie Maker 2.6 dropping the audio. For the record, within Movie Maker, in the preview window, if I press play on say the 2nd or 3rd scene, I DO have audio. Very frustrating. |
