Default Networking Vista and XP

My old computer has XP pro. The new one has Vista Home premium. I just
bought a new router, Linksys EXZS55W. Can't get the two to talk. Is the
router incompatible? Is their a fix?
Help!!

Make sure that both of your computers are in the same workgroup.

Try the standard Microsoft reference first.
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/vista_fp.mspx>
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ne...e/vista_fp.mspx

Then look at issues that involve Vista and XP together.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html>
http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/...n-together.html

And look at logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server",
and "net config workstation", from each computer, so we can diagnose the
problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):

that is a switch and not a router. you need a router to supply DHCP
addresses to the computers on your network. what is the switch
connected to? a broadband modem? which modem?
