Can Connect to 3Com Access Point - Can't surf

Windows Vista laptops can connect to 3Com access points but can only get
google.com and expedia.com. Outside of those two sites, I can not find any
other sites that I can reach. I am getting DNS info, DHCP address.

Tested this with a brand new Toshiba U305-S5127. Windows XP SP2 32 -
Connected - surfed, pinged, tracert all successful.
Same laptop different hard drive - Windows Vista Home Premium 32 connected,
signal strength 100% (I was sitting under the AP) can not surf, can not ping

Contacted the vendor that supplied the 3Com AP's - he contacted 3Com.
3Com reports that the problem is he device driver used in Vista. This sounds
like a hardware vendor passing the buck.

Anyone have any ideas? I need to have a working solution ready to roll out
in less than 11 days

I take that back. Using the Hard Drive with Vista Home Premium I am able to
connect, ping and tracert but not surf. I'm at a loss. Why can I hit the site
with a ping, trace the route back to the server, but I can not view the page?

I'm sure it is something really simple that I am overlooking.

Any ideas?

Issue Resolved. Turns out it was a 3Com hardware issue. I have my 3Com rep
coming tomorrow and we should be 100% Vista compatible by 5pmEST tomorrow

Boone Helm, just 1 question.
Your 3com rep change for free the access point?, i have the same problem in
my work. We manage 12 access point 3com and can't surf in windows vista, but
in XP works.

I actually let my 3Com rep take care of everything through Windows XP remote
assistance and hyperterminal. I sat back and watched him do everything. I
watched him apply an older image than the one that we had installed and then
he applied the 6.0.0.3 (I think that was the version #). I have 97 AP's on my
network. It took about 2 hours total before Vista users network wide could
surf. Before the fix I heard nothing but complaints, since the fix, I
haven't heard anything. Not a single thank you. This is why I am getting out
of this business. The second something goes wrong everyone is on me like
white on rice but when I'm doing my job well they don't give me a second
thought until it is time to cut my budget again.

Although he could have charged me for his time, he didn't. Probably because
we have 3 other huge projects coming up and he will make his money back and
then some on those jobs. We are installing 30 external antennas, filling in
weak zones with more AP's and in about a month he and I and the architect are
sitting down to figure out the infrastructure for a new multi-story building.

Let me know how things work out on your end.

My wireless network is now 100% Vista compatable. Now we just have to apply
the hot fix for Microsoft OWA. My Vista users can't create, reply to or
forward e-mail through the web interface. That's another fix for another
weekend of overtime. :-)
