Ummm, no idea how to fix this. Without warning my Windows Contacts started
playing up. I can open the folder and use them to address emails, but if I double clock on one to open it for editing there's a split second flash of a little window (smaller than the contacts edit window) and nothing else happens. Tried catching it with the camera but not a hope. Everything was fine before, and I haven't changed anything knowingly. But I can't edit any contacts and I'm getting desperate. Please help me. -- Peter in New Zealand. (Pull the plug out to reply.) Collector of old cameras, tropical fish fancier, good coffee nutter, and compulsive computer fiddler. |

Which antivirus are you running?

I seem to recall that the inability to edit Contacts can be related to
Windows Update KB933928. You could try uninstalling that one. However, the only sure fix is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail: http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas Gary VanderMolen "Peter in New Zealand" <peterbalplug@xtra.co.nz> wrote in message news:uLBYN4j3HHA.1208@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Gary VanderMolen wrote: >> Which antivirus are you running? >> >> Gary VanderMolen >> >> >> "Peter in New Zealand" <peterbalplug@xtra.co.nz> wrote in message news:#LBVnGj3HHA.1204@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >>> Ummm, no idea how to fix this. Thank you Gary. WLM is just not my cup of tea I'm afraid. It seems to be a fairly pushy attempt to move users in the direction of on line working, and an old fella like me has an instinctive distrust of that. Plus I don't like being manipulated (When I'm aware of it anyway - chuckle.). After all the promise of WM over OE I feel MS have let the side down a bit. If I could somehow run OE6 on Vista I would seriously consider it, but it seems that is just not possible. So I'm migrating completely to Thunderbird, which seems to do everything I need, and do it pretty well. There's even a little extension for it that syncs the contacts neatly with my Nokia, which is really why I was hanging in there with WM. I realise everyone's needs are different, but I really do think MS have tarnished the reputation of a fine new OS version by their apparent abandonment of WM. Anyway (sigh) I appreciate your help in the matter - thank you. -- Peter in New Zealand. (Pull the plug out to reply.) To each his own, I guess. WLM is still evolving, so it may change
into something you like better. WM is getting less and less usable as time goes on, without any bug fixes on the horizon. Yeah, I know. It's kind of tragic really. But I think I found the culprit!!!
I am posting it here just in case it helps anyone else. I had Office 2000 installed, the SBE with Outlook 2000. I did the usual things to get it working OK in Vista, but I think it might have confused the poor thing about Windows Contacts. I don't actually use Outlook as you may have gathered, so I carefully uninstalled it and rooted out whatever bits I could find. And I can edit Windows Contacts once more. No guarantees, but it is at least possible that was the cause of the trouble I think. I notice the executable file of the Contacts program is called "wab.exe" so that might have confused the old Outlook. Anyway, all's well that end's well. Thank you for your help Gary. It's appreciated. -- Peter in New Zealand. (Pull the plug out to reply.) Collector of old cameras, tropical fish fancier, good coffee nutter, and compulsive computer fiddler. Thanks for that update. Who would have thought that a temporary
install of Office 2000 could have such an effect on Windows Contacts.
