Is there any way i can retrieve my email from a web based email client onto
windows mail from maybe like google mail?

Yes, just follow the instructions on the Gmail web page,
Settings > Forwarding and POP

Use the instructions as per Outlook Express
and don't forget to enable Gmail pop/forwarding.

Windows Mail can access Gmail POP servers.
First you have to enable POP on the Gmail site.
