Vista is becoming faster on my machine...

In the past week or so, Vista has become noticeably faster. I
loaded the two patches and installed a fast 2GB SD card for the
sake of ReadyBoost, but detected no obvious/immediate improvement.

This system (Core Duo @ 1.8GHz, 2GB RAM) has never had stability
issues so I cannot comment on that.

However, boot time is now down to about 85 seconds, which is the
same as XPPro. After boot, I use little TLB scripts to load
whatever app combinations are needed for the tasks at hand - and
they definitely settle down more quickly than before. And, there
is a utility (Palm installer) that never worked with Vista and
did NOT work immediately after I made those improvements - but I
just tried it and it works well!

Is it possible that the system has been doing some background
maintenance, or learning, after installation of those patches
and external memory?

It's a pleasure... though I'd like to gain a better
understanding of what happened so I can do more of it.

Henry, I too have applied the 2 patches,although beta i have found a vast
improvement in the operating system as a whole.
A few more tweaking patches and i think microsoft "may" have cracked
it,although very frustrating at times,like never a day goes by without some
stupid annoyance in vista,it is now looking like perseverence might pay off.

I won't even comment on the bald spot (WonderGro? :-) ) but the rest is
entirely possible and even quite probable. There are a number of things
Vista does when first installed (indexing, optimizing the preload cache and
so on) that only start to benefit you after Vista has had some time to
"settle down" and get to work.

If you boot Vista from sleep mode, it only takes 5 seconds.

There you go, Vista is even capable of user rejuvenescence...
