Installation of this month's updates.

I received notification of update availability last night from Msoft. I have
never had a problem until last night.

I downloaded and ran the updates and after rebooting my machine I had a
weird situation.

My mouse would move ok but would not click on anything. In rebooting again
the same thing happened.

To cure the problem I reinstalled an Acronis backup taking it back a day or
two. Now I'm afraid to run the updates again.

Has anyone had a similar problem this week?

I'm running Windows XP Sp2 with all updates installed except this weeks.

Every one of us receives different updates based upon how our individual
machines are setup ,wether or not you have the download application set to
automatic ,wether you go to the update site and pick and choose what to
download...etc etc.
So without knowing what you downloaded we cannot help you...we can only
suggest that you do not download wiilynilly but actually go to the site and
download all of the XP iimportant stuff but NOT the hardware drivers that
are not for MS hardware...those you should get directly from the
manufacturers website.............what make is your mouse??

This month my XP updates wokred normally.

However, a few times over the past 10 years or so I have installed Microsoft
updates only to have my PC act strangely, under both 98 and XP.

Like you I have learned that having a backup image is a good way to fix
things. (I also use Acronis True Image, and like it.)

I suggest that you download and install one update at a time, reboot,
confirm that the PC works OK, then download another, etc. Keep notes on
which ones you install (KBxxxxxxx).

It may happen that this time they will all install correctly, without
causing problems. That would suggest that you simply had a bad download.

Or, one specific update may cause the problem again. If so, restore from
the image and download everything except that one.

That's good advice and I'm going to try this tomorrow. (It's 1 am here and
I'm getting tired. (hi hi).

I've been reading today on other newsgroups that many are having problems
with the .net updates. I'm going to read more and see what I can learn.
