Default Errors opening an Excel workbook

Having errors on opening an Excel document I downloaded with a parts list for
my laptop. I'm using Excel 2000, but I think this was created with a higher
version, possibly Excel 2007. Starts up with errors, and wants to close. It
cannot fix it. Transferred the file to a machine using Office XP. It opens
with an error, but will let me repair it, and then it'll open in both Excel
2000, and Excel XP versions after saving it in the fixed format. XP log
shows: Lost Visual Basic project.
Lost ActiveX controls. Tried with Word 2000, and it starts, then gives an
out of memory error. Only will open part of the workbook. I have the
compatability pack, but it doesn't seem to help. Don't know what else to do,
but to upgrade to Office 2007 at some point. Any ideas what is going on?
Fixes?

Default RE: Errors opening an Excel workbook

Oh, I should mention Excel 2000; part of the Office 2000 suite, on a WinXP
SP2 machine is what this is running on. Thx.
