hi, everyone: I have several questions about XPE and DirectX9.0c On Motherboard EPIA-CN from VIA, and winodws xp professional platform, I installed DirectX runtime, then run my application (using directx 9.0, Dec. 2006 version), I can render 3D graphics correctly. Now I want to emigrate the application to xpe platform. my questions are: (1). are the functionalities of the Windows xp embedded absolutely corresponding to that of windows xp professional? with the same hardware(motherboard, display adapter, etc) that means, as long as I successfully run any application on windows xp pro, then I can run it on windows xp embedded, when suitable drivers or component installed? because now I am testing and experiementing on win xp pro. i need conform, otherwise, if on xpe , it is restricted, even success on xp pro can not gurantee for me the success on xpe, it will be sad.. (2). How to install directx 9.0c Dec.2006 version? I get a packet with one Setup.exe and 57 other files. when I install on xp pro, I did not find Setup.exe extracting any inf files, it directly installed in the system, so how can I install the directx into xpe with this packet? I checked, found it is said that xpe sp2 already included directx, but should not the xpe sp2 have the same functionalities with windos xp pro sp2? on the latter platform, I can not run my application runnable, so i guess I have to install new directx 9.0c into xpe. thank you very much. winston, 2007-6-28 |

Yes. In some rare cases registry entries need to be tweaked and that can sometimes be difficult to track down. I wouldn't expect any problems with DirectX though. > because now I am testing and experiementing on win xp pro. i need > conform, otherwise, if on xpe , it is restricted, even success on xp > pro can not gurantee for me the success on xpe, it will be sad.. It depends on what components you have in your XPe Build. If image size is not an issue it will be possible. I've installed DX9.0c on XPe successfully in the past although it is now included as a component. > (2). How to install directx 9.0c Dec.2006 version? I just ran the installer. There is also a silent installer available on www.xpefiles.com which may help. > I checked, found it is said that xpe sp2 already included directx, > but should not the xpe sp2 have the same functionalities with windos > xp pro sp2? on the latter platform, I can not run my application > runnable, so i guess I have to install new directx 9.0c into xpe. I suggest you run Dependency Walker http://www.dependencywalker.com on your XPe build to find out what files are missing from your image. -- -Mike |

DirectX 9.0c is a component in the XPE database. No need to install.
