I'm having a lot of trouble with my home network and vista (ironically, I
don't even have to do ANYTHING and it works fine while this computer is running ubuntu linux :P) Sharing options are set wide open on the XP computer. I've installed LLTD on the XP computer, and it shows up in the right place on the Vista computer's network map, but only the vista computer and the router show up in the "Network" list window. Both firewalls are off. I can successfully ping XP from vista via command line. Both computers are in the same workgroup. "Restrict anonymous" is already set to 0 on both. There is even an account with the same name/password on both. That last one would be an abysmally stupid requirement anyway, but some sources say it's needed, and obviously I'm running out suggestions to try just from searching the web. So please help me, if you can. Thank you very much. |

Thank you very much. It sounds like you've done most of the initial diagnostic work here. Can you access the Vista computer from the XP computer? What's the NetBT setting on both computers? <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/...king-using.html Take a look at logs from "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each computer, and try to isolate the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!): <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/...l#AskingForHelp -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. Chuck,
Obviously you have a great deal of knowledge in the area, but I am getting extremely lost while reading your blog posts. I have the EXACT same problem as Eoghanalbar and several other as I gather from the long list of threads from my search. Can you give me a set of instructions, step-by-step to verify and change settings? Thanks!
