Default issues downloading pics from cfII card reader

i'm wondering if anyone has had an issue with downloading pics from a cfII
card reader. i can put card in reader and computer will find it. i try to
copy to a file and i get a variety of error messages. originally it was just
parameters are incorrect and then more recently i get messages about can't
read file. thought it was my card reader so bought a new one in a different
brand. same problem. had original card reader tested on another computer
and it works fine. thought it was my ultra II card. had it checked out and
it is fine. i have no trouble downloading from camera to computer. this
problem started about the same time i downloaded microsoft automatic updates
and my sound card software disappeared!!! anyone got a solution....and please
don't tell me do it from camera to computer as it takes longer and wastes
battery power

I don't know of any tools that can reliably check the condition of the
memory cards. It doesn't mean that there aren't any. Just means I don't
know of one. So I have to ask -- have you tried a different memory card?

I bought an adapter for my camera to load directly from it and not waste
batteries. I hardly ever use it though since card readers are usually so
much easier...
