I have a project that I would like to dictate in which I will have to use the
word Attorney many many times. However, whenever I say the word, speech recognition chooses to use the form Atty. Is there a way for me to delete this form of the word from the speech recognition dictionary? I will never use it in that form. I have tried to add it to the list of cannot dictate words, but without putting the period after it that won't keep the program from using it. And I cannot add it to the list to not dictate with the period. No matter how often I correct the program when it uses that form, it's still uses it every single time. Any help would be appreciated because I'm at the end of my wits. |

I know next to nothing about speech recognition, and can't answer the question. But as a workaround, why not just let it supply "Atty" and then do a search and replace to change all instances of "Atty" to "Attorney" when you're done. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

I would really rather be able to fix the issue one time than have to fix it
over and over again whenever I have a document with the word "attorney." I'm finding the voice recognition software impressive as far as accuracy goes, but customization of words and pronounciation, as well as being compatible with programs other than IE and Microsoft Office 2007, is behind that of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 5. (Also since I dictate into Notepad and then copy and paste into WordPerfect, this isn't something that I can set as an "auto correct" word. It would have to be a find and replace.) Open Speech Recognition by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking Windows Speech Recognition. 2. Say "Open Speech Dictionary." 3. Do any of the following: • To add a word to the dictionary, click or say Add a new word, and then follow the instructions in the wizard. • To prevent a specific word from being dictated, click or say Prevent a word from being dictated, and then follow the instructions in the wizard. • To correct a word that is already in the dictionary, click or say Change existing words, and then follow the instructions in the wizard. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Wi...df01033.mspx#EG |

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I've already seen those topics when
I did a search in the help to try to solve my problem. One would think that if I were to tell the program not to allow Atty. to be dictated and then if I put attorney as an added word and then I record my saying the word attorney that the next time I used it in a document it would be right. It's not. I've not found any way to work within the program to get it to type out attorney instead of Atty.. I'm quickly coming to believe that even though the program is very impressive as far as its accuracy goes, it's not so good when it comes to customizing the dictionary or allowing a user defined dictionary.
