Default Windows Security pop-up window repeats

I just bought a new laptop w/ Vista Home Premium. I set up Windows Mail (I'm
not a novice computer user...), but when I try to send/receive, I get a
Windows Security window asking me to verify username/password. I input the
information (which I am sure is correct) and hit OK, but the security screen
just refreshes.

I've tried deleting the account, closing mail, and re-creating account; have
also played w/ different settings in regard to authentication and secure
servers, etc.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Tracy

If you computer came with either McAfee or Norton, it's probably sent to
scan email. This has caused problems similar to yours.

Either adjust it to not scan email, or replace it with a different AntiVirus
program, such as the free version of Avast, which does not interfere with
windows mail.

KB, thanks for your response. It did come w/ a trial of NAV, so I disabled
the email scanning portion and tried Windows Mail again. Security window
continues to pop up repeatedly.

Anything else you (or anyone) can think of??

Thanks!

You must uninstall NAV completely, or else it will
continue to interfere with Windows Mail.

Check under Start, All Programs. The Norton Antivirus folder
(I don't know exactly what it is called) may include an uninstall.
If not, go to Control Panel, Programs and Features (which replaced
XP's Add/Remove Programs), look for any entries that have Norton
or Symantec in the name, click on it and choose uninstall.
After everything Norton/Symantec is uninstalled, reboot, then
go to http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
and download and install the free Avast antivirus. Be sure to
choose the option NOT to have emails scanned.
