Some time ago I asked if anyone had a registry fix that would suppress the
listing of zip files in the folder view in Windows Explorer. The one that works for XP doesn't work in Vista. No one came up withe an answer at that time. I finally located the proper fix tonight at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article03-202 It looks like this.... ------------------------------------------ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; Disable ZIP support in Windows Vista ; from Windows Vista Annoyances ( http://Annoyances.org/vista ) ; restart Windows after applying this patch [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}] [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262}] ------------------------------------------- -- --- Long live Fat32! --- |

Why does it bother you? Just curious. I find it a useful feature.

I have a folder with over 100 zip files in it. That folder also has a
couple of subfolders. If I try to expand the folder in the left pane, instead of just seeing my subfolders, it also lists all the zip files as folders. Apparently it has to determine the contents of all the zip files as it lists them, because it takes forever. Also, if you try to "save as" something in a folder with zip files in it, it also shows them all in the "save as" screen and sometimes will even lock up. I use Winzip, but even without Winzip and the registry fix applied, you can still open zip files by double clicking on them in the right pane.
