Default Dreamscene no longer working

Dreamscene was fine on my PC until recently. But now I can't get any scenes
to play as my wallpaper. When I try, the system ignores my selection. But I
change "standard" wallpapers without problem.

The only thing I changed was my cable - from DVI to VGA. Could this be it?

VGA shouldn't be a problem.
My monitor's DVI input packed up recently so I fitted an adaptor to
downconvert to VGA from the video cards DVI output and connected into the
panels VGA input.
Everything including Dreanscene work perfectly.
Dreamescene can be a bit flaky and occasionally "stops working", but nothing
major that a restart won't fix.
The answer to your problem lies elsewhere.
Sorry I can't be more constructive, but at least you can eliminate this
possibility.

Thanks for comments. Is it possible to reinstall Dreamscene?

You can uninstall it, then reinstall. From Control Panel | Programs -
Uninstall a program | Click on View installed updates in the left pane.
When it populates click on the Windows Dreamscene Preview (KB929327) and
then click on uninstall.

I haven't actually tried this so I don't know if the update will be offered
again once it's uninstalled.
