I have excel 97 and I am trying to update it to be able to use with excel
2003 on windows xp

Do you mean you will install Excel 2003?

You can have both 97 and 2003 together on same computer with no problems
generally.

Update formats is what I'm having a problem with.

What do you mean by that?
