check box is unavailable

I am using windows xp home edition and i try to connect to shared drive on
network using unc method (from the run i type the ip address eg.
\\192.168.1.10).
A window appears asking for username , password but the usual check box for
saving the password is missing. i tried chacging ie properties with no result.
