Default "Error Loading OS"

I installed Win XP Pro on a computer I built. All was OK until I shut it
down to install a DDR2 cooling fan. When I restarted it would only boot to a
black screen with message "Error Loading OS" in the top left corner. I have
a SATA hard drive and I may have loosened the hard drive power connector when
I installed the DDR2 cooling fan and turned the PC on. I tried setting the
BIOS to boot from the CDROM and am able to startup into Windows using my
Windows XP installation CD. The PC is fully operational once started up. Is
there anything I can do to get past this so that it starts up normally
without the CD? I don't want to have to reformat and completely re-install
everything as I have many programs installed. It would be overwhelming to
have to start completely over. I guess I could use the installation CD
whenever I startup or never shut it off. Bummer! Any ideas?
