Default boot disk set up - will install windows Xp delete my files

I had a windows xp pro get a msgina.dll error as described in this newsgroup.

When I finish loading the 6th disk, I don't want to risk erasing my private
data on the hard disk. when it asks to install windows xp (choice 1), after
I put my windows xp disk in, is this process going to ultimately delete my
files?

Thanks!
