Good evening.
Small problem here: While not really necessary, I wanted to update from XP Home to XP Pro for some additional features and such and I encountered a problem. It starts off OK: recommends upgrade rather full install which I choose, checked for any new downloadable things for the update process (tried it this way and also skippped that function). I then enter the product key and it copies some things from the disk to the hard drive and then at the very end of that process I get an error message saying something to the effect that, "as23YTpp567.sys" is missing...would like to retry, skip or cancel... Itired all of those things. It will not work with a re-try, skipping result in a error upon reboot and cancel simply stopps the install process. I then tried booting from CD and that only allows a full install...and I do not want that; I tried copying the disk, thinking that sometimes if there is something corrupt or a ding in the CD, burning sometimes corrects those issues... nothing appears to be working. I turned off all virus and security procotcols I have in place (Zone alarm Pro Suite and a couple other apps)... One thing that occurred to me is that I have shut off unnecessary services via msconfig and other apps...more of the the annoying non essential kind (including non-MSoft variety) but I don't recall or believe I've shut off anything integral to XP... Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated. thank you for your time and attention. G |

You cannot upgrade win from within win, you have to boot from the win
upgrade cd, and since it only allows a new install perhaps you purchased the wrong type of XPpro cd "Verseau" <Verseau@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:00DCFD4F-AFC2-45A6-94CE-90C045315655@microsoft.com... > Good evening. > > Small problem here: > > While not really necessary, I wanted to update from XP Home to XP Pro for > some additional features and such and I encountered a problem. > > It starts off OK: recommends upgrade rather full install which I choose, > checked for any new downloadable things for the update process (tried it this > way and also skippped that function). > > I then enter the product key and it copies some things from the disk to the > hard drive and then at the very end of that process I get an error message > saying something to the effect that, "as23YTpp567.sys" is missing...would > like to retry, skip or cancel... > > Itired all of those things. Completely wrong, Are you Andrew posting under an alias?
You very much CAN start the upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro from within the OS, you can also upgrade using the full retail version, you DO NOT need the upgrade version. Your statement of "you have to boot from the win upgrade cd, and since it only allows a new install" is contradictory and makes no sense at all. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 How to Post http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm _________________________________________________________________________________ "DL" <address@invalid> wrote in message news:%23qybKsRqHHA.1172@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > You cannot upgrade win from within win, you have to boot from the win > upgrade cd, and since it only allows a new install perhaps you purchased > the > wrong type of XPpro cd > |

There was no mention of using "the full retail version", I worded it badly I
did'nt mean to imply op was using an upgrade version. That doesn't explain your misinformation about starting the upgrade from
within the OS. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 How to Post http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm _________________________________________________________________________________ "DL" <address@invalid> wrote in message news:upXMSMTqHHA.1296@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > There was no mention of using "the full retail version", I worded it badly > I > did'nt mean to imply op was using an upgrade version. |

Issues like that are usually cause by either a bad CD, a bad CD drive, bad
hard drive, or bad RAM. I would suggest running memtest86 on the RAM and the Hard drive mfgs test utility on the hard drive as a place to start. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 How to Post http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm _________________________________________________________________________________ "Verseau" <Verseau@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:00DCFD4F-AFC2-45A6-94CE-90C045315655@microsoft.com... > Good evening. > > Small problem here: > > While not really necessary, I wanted to update from XP Home to XP Pro for > some additional features and such and I encountered a problem. > > It starts off OK: recommends upgrade rather full install which I choose, > checked for any new downloadable things for the update process (tried it > this > way and also skippped that function). > > I then enter the product key and it copies some things from the disk to > the > hard drive and then at the very end of that process I get an error message > saying something to the effect that, "as23YTpp567.sys" is missing...would > like to retry, skip or cancel... > > Itired all of those things. So how do you upgrade win when the files are in use?

You can start the upgrade from the up and running Windows installation,
DL. You just plop the cd in the drive and it will ask you if you want to upgrade. You accept the EULA, punch in the Product ID number, tell it whether or not you want to get Updated Setup Files and then the computer will reboot. The actual upgrade will be done in the reboot phase, pretty well the same as if it were done from the CD boot. Hi folks:
Thank you to the two folks who wrote me via email to tell me what was up. Yes, I am aware that this upgrade is possible and yes, I perform regular maintenance on my computer. I have never encountered an error like this in my 12 years on the box. Perhaps I've just been lucky. I tried again this evening, and even copied everything into a folder on my harddrive and all ended in the same result And while I don't see a single mark on the CD - full retail - I'm thinking it is probably the CD and that something is corrupt on it. Thank you all for responding and your time. regards, V "John John" wrote: > You can start the upgrade from the up and running Windows installation, > DL.
