I would like to remove some of the task bar icons next to the clock Icon in
the lower right of the screen without removing the programs, including from the start menu, if possible. Has anyone tried to do this. I know running MSCONFIG lets you do it however it seems to leave the computer in a reduced state, (diagnostic state). Thanks in advance, kevin. watersk@ccf.org or kevin_c_waters@yahoo.com |

See my response to your later nearly identical post. I did recommend using
msconfig. I'm not sure what you mean by a "reduced state". Removing a program from msconfig will simply prevent it from starting automatically. Naturally, the computer would be running differently because the program would not be running...but wasn't that the point in the first place? Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean by "reduced state". Please explain. First - posting your actual email address(es) on a public newsgroup (replicated worldwide, archived just about forever...) is not a good plan. Expect it to be harvested by bots and spam to begin. :-( Using MSCONFIG to 'remove' said icons is stopping the applications from running AT ALL. Is that your intention? Stop them from loading up AT ALL unless you manually run them? Then USE msconfig to find out where their startup calls are located, go there and remove them there (registry, startup folder, etc...) - or better yet - use the actual programs themselves to configure the programs to do what you desire (load up but have no icon, not load up at startup, whatever.) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |
