I have a Sony Vaio with Windpows XP Professional Installed. I have had to
perform a complete system restore from the original discs that has resulted in a clean installation of Windows XP Pro SP1. I have attempted then to use Microsoft Update to apply all upgrades to bring the Operating system up to date. This all works fine until I get to the SP2 download and install, whilst trying to install this, the machine is constantly at 100% CPU utilisation with update.exe grabbing most of the CPU. I have gone through a complete installation from disc 3 times now with same result. I have also attempted to update to SP2 by downloading to network and running update from there with the same result. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks |

sounds like probably normal.
have you considered get a SP2 cd from MS. what you might consider doing is to install SP2 instead of updating SP1 first, then do an update run to get those items since SP2 release. mikeyhsd@comcast.net "davidreed" <davidreed@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8BF515E2-F597-48DA-870D-EBF4D654B336@microsoft.com... Install SP2 immediately after you do the restore, it includes all the SP1
updates, your just wasting time running windows update before hand. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 How to Post http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm _________________________________________________________________________________ "davidreed" <davidreed@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8BF515E2-F597-48DA-870D-EBF4D654B336@microsoft.com... >I have a Sony Vaio with Windpows XP Professional Installed.
