Yes, by creating a slipstreamed install cd containing the latest sp

You should have data backups anyway

Hi daver55,

Perhaps you should consider creating a bootable, slipstreamed install CD.
You could follow the instructions here:

Slipstreamed Windows XP CD Using SP2
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm
(or do a web search for slipstreaming instructions, as plenty of them abound!)

Also, many people seem pleased with having used autostreamer to slipstream:

First off, you should be starting the reinstall by booting from
the XP installation CD. The error message you cite appears if
you try to start the installation from within Windows.

Next, as has already been pointed out, you can create an
installation CD that includes SP2 by creating a "slipstreamed"
CD.

Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP

Here are some of the files you'll need to obtain in order to
follow this procedure:

Professionals and Developers

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

AutoStreamer 1.0.33

Here are some other resources you might want to take a look at:

Finally, before you attempt to perform a repair installation,
you should back up any file and folders you consider important.
Test your backup to make sure all the files are recoverable.
