Removal of Password Protection When Starting Computer

Can someone please tell me how to make it where my computer doesn't require a
password to start up?

Remove the password requirement...
Seriously. In order for there to be one - you had to put it there - undo
it.

Unless you aren't telling us some part of the story?

(Which I know some things are missing - like if this is actually a Windows
password or pre-windows password, etc.)

- Go into the BIOS and clear the passwords set there.
- Go into Windows and set it up for Automatic Logon.

I assume you mean that you would like the computer to go directly to the
XP Desktop since you are the only user. If that assumption is correct:

Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -

If I guessed wrong, then please post back with a better and more
detailed post about what you are trying to do.

Yes, I made the password for keeping anyone from using my laptop without my
knowledge. I am trying to figure out how to remove it because I need to take
it to be worked on and don't want to give out the password to the ones
servicing it. Not sure what you mean by BIOS. I am new to this type of stuff.

I also forgot to write which password it is, sorry. It is the password that
comes up at the first start of the turning on of the power before anything
else shows up.

I will try to explain this better. When I turn on my laptop, the first thing
I get is it asking for a password. After I enter my password, it then takes
me to the windows screen where I can click on my name and login. I can't even
get to anything other then a black screen asking for a password after
starting my computer. That protective password is what I want to be able to
remove. I hope that is a better explanation.

That is the BIOS password.

You will have to get into the BIOS (I don't know what key that is for youtr
laptop... F1, F2, DEL, etc.. Before Windows Xp ever starts booting) and in
there will be a security section where you can clear the BIOS password.

It's different for each manufacturer - sometimes per model even.

Yes, that is a better explanation. You set a password in the BIOS and
very unfortunately forgot it. Clearing that password on a laptop depends
on the laptop make and model. You can post back with that missing
information and we may be able to tell you the next step or you can call
the laptop mftr.'s tech support for help. Some laptops have a special
backdoor BIOS password that will allow you to enter the BIOS and clear
the password requirement. Other laptops will need to be sent back to the
mftr. You will undoubtedly need to provide the mftr. with proof of
ownership, etc.
