After many years working with XP Prof, I finally started to use Vista
Business edition. After switching off UAC, I quite enjoy working with Vista. I have noticed however, that the start-up time for Vista with the same hardware config (2 GB mem) and the same software on board is 11/2 minutes as compared to less than 1 minute with XP Prof. Any suggestions and or experience? |

Hi James,
Vista has more initial overhead than XP, as it's designed for higher end hardware. Once running, it manages memory better and should have a better overall performance than XP on comparable systems. Why disable UAC? Once a system is set up, it should not appear in normal operations, only for those that require elevated privileges. Programs should be running in the user environment which does not require elevated privileges. If they insist on running in the system, then they are not really compatible with Vista and may cause other issues by writing to the system folders or altering system files (which is exactly what malware attempts to do and UAC is designed to prevent from happening). By disabling it, you remove the protection it is designed to give. Also, there are some programs and updates that will not install properly if it is disabled. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "James" <james@home.nl> wrote in message news:uhI1B98iHHA.2408@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > After many years working with XP Prof, I finally started to use Vista > Business edition.
