Default All Programs - Sort By Name??

Hi,

Am I missing something or is it true that:

(1) Sort By Name for program links in All Programs is gone?

(2) I no longer can manually arrange program links by drag-and-drop?
Example, most frequently used is on the top of the list.

(3) How can I make sure all program links in different user profiles are all
the same? I used to put them in All Users. Or by default, Vista will do
that for me so every user can see the same set of program links?

(4) Windows Explorer: Toolbars is also gone, right?

Please tell me that I am wrong!!

"Sort by Name" is the default behavior in Vista. To change that: Right-click
the Start button, Properties, Customize, and clear the "Sort All Programs
menu by name" check box.

Program installers should be aware of multiuser scenarios and offer an
option to install the application for all users, not only the currently
logged on. You can manually put all shortcuts in All Users folder, of
course, as in previous versions of Windows.

It's been replaced by the Command Bar (the green bar). It's not
customizable.

Default Re: All Programs - Sort By Name??

Hi,

Thanks for your time.

I noticed Sort By Name is the default behavior and it has only ONE way for
sort by name or else, as you mentioned, clear it. Pretty much consistent
with all new interfaces - On or OFF, Yes or No, 0 and 1, My way or No Way.

I also understand program installers should do that, and they shouldn't put
auto-start option without user's consensus and offer an option to turn it
off, and shouldn't send system information without user's knowledge and so
on and so forth. Unfortunately, it does not happen in the real world and
let's don't cheat ourselves. So what is the worst case scenario when
program links are only placed to the user who installed the program? In XP,
put it to another user profile or ALL Users.

And for toolbars, yes, that's what I meant, not customizable.

I wonder if anyone using or testing the OS has actually measured the
unnecessary eye and hand movements when using this new interface. I haven't
really got into this part until recently, but it is rather
counterproductive.

Again, thanks for your time and sharing. But this interface is terrible and
effectively removes one of the company's product core competency -
flexibility.

Good job!
