I have a new Dell Dimension C521 computer that is approximately 1 1/2 months
old. The last week and a half has just about drove me crazy, there is a small box popping up in the middle of the screen stating Windows Explorer is not responding followed by a box stating Windows is restarting, this is happening approximately 20 times a minute. There is also a pink box popping up in the bottom right hand corner stating that my McAfee subscription has expired, I have no idea what that is or how to delete it, and this is happening about 15 times a minute,oh yeah I am not done yet, there are also other boxes appearing in the middle of the saying: Spyheal, Spyware: Renos, Malware Wiped. I also suspect that my nephew has been on my computer looking at porn sites, short of killing him how do I fix this problem, can I dump all this stuff and start over fresh as if it is a new computer right out of the box as if no one has used it????? If so can you help me do it by e-mail or phone? I am deseparate also: Problem 2: I have a new Lexmark 3-1 (printer, scanner, copier) 1200 series that I cannot get to work, When I put the disc in to download it it states on my computer screen that it has finished downloading but there is not an icon on my desktop, taskbar or in the programs, what am I doing wrong, when I bought this Dell told me that it was compatiable with my computer so I really don't know what to do. Your help would be greatly appreciated or direct me to someone who can help. Sincere regards, JOJO |

Hi Jojo,
Forget #2 until you resolve #1. As the system is only 1 1/2 months old, and you may not have anything on it worth keeping, starting fresh will probably be easier than trying to clean it. Dell generally includes either a recovery media disk or partition on the hard drive with the system image. Check your documentation on the proper way to access it and do a clean install. Once setup, I would strongly urge you to keep your nephew off the system by passwording the account and not letting him have access. If he must use it, give him his own regular user account where he won't have sufficient privileges to install malware. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "JOJO" <JOJO@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2FE6D207-1C24-4E80-B2E2-53FD5E0F11AF@microsoft.com... >I have a new Dell Dimension C521 computer that is approximately 1 1/2 >months > old. Download a program called "SpyBot Search & and Destroy"(it is compatible with
Vista) up date it, and then get it to check your computer for spyware, malware problems, etc. The spyware programs you mention are SPYWARE So much for Windows Defender, lol. http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html 2nd: McAfee is your anti-virus program. Check to see when the subscription date is due; 6 weeks useage seems to be a bit short even on a Dell computer! Depending how bad a spyware problem is on a computer, at times it can knock out your anti-virus program, causing it to give error messages;or even if if it is McAfee giving you the message! Porn sites generate everything; a no-go zone. 3rd: Re the printer; I connected my Lexmark printer(1170 Series) to my XP comp, but print through it from Vista Mick Murphy in Australia(QLD) "JOJO" wrote: > I have a new Dell Dimension C521 computer that is approximately 1 1/2 months > old. Try disabling them all or, for my money, resetting IE from the manage add ons section of Internet Options | programs | Manage Add Ons. If that makes the problem go away it is a lot easier than scouring for a bot or other bit of malware that might not be there. |
