since i upgraded to vista a few days ago i am unable to send any email to a
certian contact of mine, but the strange part is that i am able to send email to all of my other contacts heres what the error message looks like when i try to send to this contact The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider. The rejected e-mail address was '___@___.com'. Subject 'send reply', Account: 'pop3.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 [PERMFAIL] destination not valid within DNS', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79 |

It would have helped us to diagnose the problem if you had not
wiped out the domain name portion of the destination email address. According to your ISP: http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/ind...q=Emailtop17686 you are supposed to be using port 587 instead of port 25 for the outgoing (SMTP) mail server. When you change that, also make sure you have "My server requires authentication" checked. I didn't need the username part, just the domain.
As I suspected "youkontimbers.com" is not a valid domain name. That's why you got the "destination not valid within DNS" error message. gary,
I've been reading quite a few of your posts and hoped you could help me with my outgoing mail problem. Here's the facts. New computer(dell laptop) with windows home premium vista. Like many here, cannot send outgoing mail. Here's all the pertinent information. Error message for outgoing mail your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, entwork problems,or a long period of inactivity. Subject "test", Account: 'cindy Perusse:, Server: 'smtpauth.earthlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): no, Error number: 0x800CC0F Other information for you. I've been using comcast with earthlink mail and no problems on my windows xp program. I have "NOT" installed any anti virus software yet. My server information has "my server requires authentication" checked in the box. Outgoing server port is 25 My computer is connected through a Linksys router. Again the other two laptops on this router give me no problems with Windows XP. Hope this is all the information you would need. Brand new computer so plan on calling Microsoft or DEll. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me Gary. Thanks for including such detailed information. It is very helpful.
Let's start with the most likely cause. Change the outgoing port number to 587 (instead of 25). EarthLink supports both port numbers, but 587 will work under more circumstances. If that didn't fix the problem, try this next: There is a new TCP tuning feature in Vista which is not compatible with some servers. a. Go to the Vista start menu and type cmd b. The search results will display a program titled cmd c. Right-click on the link and select "Run as administrator" d. type "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" without the quotation marks e. Test your POP account and see if you can now download your mail. f. If nothing changes, re-enable the autotuning feature by typing "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal" Note: Instead of steps a & b, you can also use the shortcut for Command Prompt, if you are more familiar with it. Let us know if any of this was successful. according to this webpage, you need to change the outgoing port to 587 http://kb.earthlink.net/case.asp?s=...1&article=21833 port 25 only works if you are on Earthlink's network "dave" <dave@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F9575343-8CF6-439E-8135-5063D0A16768@microsoft.com... > gary, > I've been reading quite a few of your posts and hoped you could help me > with > my outgoing mail problem. > > Here's the facts. > New computer(dell laptop) with windows home premium vista. > Like many here, cannot send outgoing mail.
