I have been experiencing, very slow shutdown times in Vista Ultimate Edition.
When I actually shutdown my Vista box, everything goes as it should. I see the logging off.... then shutting down text, then in a little bit my monitor shuts off. Now this is where it gets interesting. On average (calculated from 2 weeks) after my monitor goes black it takes 1.34 to 2.03 minutes for my computer to completely shutdown. Does anyone know why it takes this long to shutdown? Seems to me that once the 'Shutting down...' text disappears and the monitor shuts off then the computer would shut off at that moment and not stay powered on. |

Vista has a lot more services it has to wait to clean up their acts before
it shuts down. It turns off the monitor sooner (actually just fades to black) so it will give the illusion of a faster shutdown. But since Vista doesn't let anything... device drivers, programs, services... anything, keep it from shutting down, you can usually be more confident that it will .. at least eventually .. actually shut down. That's what I heard anyway. Found a site that gives instructions on how to speed up the shutdown times in
Vista. Unfortunately it involves editing the registry (not biggie for me), but it does work. ![]() http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...rvices-quicker/ "Deren Smith" wrote: > I have been experiencing, very slow shutdown times in Vista Ultimate Edition. > When I actually shutdown my Vista box, everything goes as it should.
