Default I lost my XP disc. Can I still do the Vista Upgrade?

I still have the package and all of the #s but no windows xp disc. Can I
still do the upsgrade?
I was thinking about doing the home premium. I have 4 kids always doing
homework or games such as Oblivion. All my son does is ebay. Is home
premium the right thing for me?

Hi,

To upgrade, XP has to be installed on the system (no showing of the disk for
a compliance check, this is a change from previous Win versions). If you
have no XP disk it is of no matter provided it is already installed.

Vista Home Premium is fine for your suggested usage.

Hi,

Pro will only upgrade to Business or Ultimate. Home Premium would require a
clean installation, but the existing OS should qualify the disk for use on a
custom install.

You can do an update install without XP, see http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932
for info and limitations.

Basiclly it consists of installing vista without entering a key, then
reinstalling vista.

Problem is, Will, that he/she wants to do an upgrade, not a clean install
with an upgrade disk. This is not about the Product Key or about doing a
clean install with an upgrade disk. Bigger problem is wanting to upgrade XP
Pro with Vista Home Premium, which is not an allowable upgrade path.
