I still have the package and all of the #s but no windows xp disc. Can I
still do the upsgrade? I was thinking about doing the home premium. I have 4 kids always doing homework or games such as Oblivion. All my son does is ebay. Is home premium the right thing for me? |

Hi,
To upgrade, XP has to be installed on the system (no showing of the disk for a compliance check, this is a change from previous Win versions). If you have no XP disk it is of no matter provided it is already installed. Vista Home Premium is fine for your suggested usage. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Kintzy" <Kintzy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B69D6CAF-D703-4751-B44E-2DD0D6FBE737@microsoft.com... >I still have the package and all of the #s but no windows xp disc. Hi,
Pro will only upgrade to Business or Ultimate. Home Premium would require a clean installation, but the existing OS should qualify the disk for use on a custom install. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Kintzy" <Kintzy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7E248767-2585-4D39-84C1-3B1FA5322079@microsoft.com... > > > "Rick Rogers" wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> To upgrade, XP has to be installed on the system (no showing of the disk >> for >> a compliance check, this is a change from previous Win versions). You can do an update install without XP, see http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932
for info and limitations. Basiclly it consists of installing vista without entering a key, then reinstalling vista. |

Problem is, Will, that he/she wants to do an upgrade, not a clean install
with an upgrade disk. This is not about the Product Key or about doing a clean install with an upgrade disk. Bigger problem is wanting to upgrade XP Pro with Vista Home Premium, which is not an allowable upgrade path. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Will" <wdieteri@rmi.net> wrote in message news:1175455377.810448.291110@n59g2000hsh.googlegroups.com... > You can do an update install without XP, see > http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5932 > for info and limitations. > > Basiclly it consists of installing vista without entering a key, then > reinstalling vista. > |
