It is my understanding that, unless you have a modem built into your
machine, Vista does not support fax capabilities. I have an HP All-In-One
5510 and use a USB connection. I do not have a modem in my desktop. Thus,
I can not use the fax in Vista. The necessary drivers and/or software to
allow this will have to be provided by your device mfg. HP does not have
the necessary driver/software for my AIO, and will likely never will, as my
AIO is 7 months old and there are no
longer driver updates available for this model. If I want to have fax
capabilities with the Vista, I will have to buy a new unit.

I've faxed through my all-in-one Canon MP830 from Vista and it worked fine.

I've also scanned from it and sent faxes directly from programs. No prob.
